Amazon Deals: Under $20 (PS2 Version)

Posted on January 28, 2007

This weekly feature is my attempt at finding good deals on Amazon. I will feature two games a week. Please note that, if you buy something after clicking through one of my links, I do get some money from Amazon.

Xenosaga — $19.99

Xenosaga is the first of a three-part video game series that follows Shion and her humanoid robot, KOS-MOS. And the rest of their merry band as they traverse around the galaxy. It’s an RPG with a turn-based battle system and a story that I really enjoyed.

Xenosaga Episode II is being sold for $19.82, which is another deal, considering I paid about $50 for Xenosaga, the first episode. And Episode III is also out, which is about $30.00, slightly more than the other two.

Katamari Damacy — $19.82

Katamari Damacy is one of those games that people rave about in a sort of awed tone, merely because it’s not something that should be remotely good, let alone addictive. Turns out, the game is wonderfully addictive, fun, and weirdly set up. You need only use the analog sticks on the game pad to guide the katamari (clump) around the screen to pick up various objects. Anything that you see, you can pick up. As long as you’re big enough, of course.

This is one of those games that need to be seen and experienced. Don’t just take my word for it.

Thanks for coming to this PS2 edition of “Under $20,” deals from everyone’s favorite on-line retailer.

Cell Phone Games: Yay or Nay?

Posted on January 23, 2007

A long while ago (okay, so it was only about five years ago) cell phone games consisted of that time-honored classic, “Snake” and, perhaps, a version of the African board game Mancala (I think on my phone it was called Bantumi).  Now, as cell phones with color screens become more common, more and more game developers are making games specifically conceived for the cell phone format.

What does everyone feel about the occasional smattering of cell phone game reviews on I Eat Games?  They are relatively cheap (generally under $7) and generally have the lovely distinction of being playable with one finger.  I love that.

Console Games for $20 or Less

Posted on January 21, 2007

Note: I get a commission for any game that you buy after you click through the link.

This will become a weekly feature. I will search through the offerings at Amazon and gather my favorite picks in one post. After all, a good deal is a good deal, right?

Link to the PastA Link to the Past ($17.99) — Gameboy Advance

I mentioned this one before, but the price has gone down since I talked about it last. $18 for a Zelda game that was released for the SNES is a pretty good steal, since some people (will, my friend) asserts that this is the best Zelda ever. I still enjoy the Minish cap more than this one, but, hey, it’s part of the Zelda series, which just lets it speak for itself.

It also has the “Four Swords” extension that allows you to hook your Gameboy Advance to your Gamecube to play the critically-acclaimed Four Swords Adventures. Of course, you’ll need four other friends, too.

Sly Cooper: Band of ThievesSly Cooper: Band of Thieves ($17.99) — PlayStation 2

Sly Cooper: Band of Thieves is the follow up to Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus. It has the same cel-shaded animation and the same quirky humor as the first game. In this game, you can play as Sly’s other friends in order to complete certain levels. The gameplay is pretty well-done and it goes in the same vein as its predecessor.

This is a great deal and I hope you take advantage of it. If not this week, then at a time that you want to play a good platformer. If you like Ratchet and Clank, you’d like this one. Or, even better, if you played any of the other Sly games, you’d like this one.

Come back next week for more under $20 picks from Amazon.com. Hope you liked this week’s features.
